This bill mandates that each board of education in New Jersey partner with one or more labor union apprenticeship programs to enhance student exposure to local apprenticeship opportunities. The partnership is required to develop general information on career pathways available through these programs for students in grades 11 and 12, as well as a career exploration program that includes at least 25 hours of programming. This programming must consist of a structured orientation session and practical experiences aimed at developing fundamental trade skills. Furthermore, the bill stipulates that at least two percent of students in the graduating 12th grade class must complete the career exploration program, and each board of education must submit an annual compliance report to the Commissioner of Education detailing their efforts and program participation data.

To support the implementation of this act, the costs may be covered through various funding sources, including state aid, federal grants, and private sponsorships. The Commissioner of Education, in collaboration with the Commissioner of Labor and Workforce Development, is tasked with requesting necessary funding as part of the annual budget proposal. Additionally, the Commissioner is required to report annually to the Governor and the Legislature on the program's implementation. The act is set to take effect immediately and will first apply to the full school year following its enactment.
