This bill mandates that any artificial intelligence chatbot utilizing generative artificial intelligence to provide voters with election-related information must include a clear and conspicuous disclosure identifying the content as generated by a generative artificial intelligence system. This disclosure must be presented before any content is provided and should be permanent or difficult to remove by subsequent users, as far as technically feasible. The bill defines "election related information" broadly, encompassing details that influence a voter's ability to participate in elections, such as election dates, voter eligibility, and polling locations.
Additionally, the bill establishes penalties for non-compliance with the disclosure requirement. If the necessary disclosure is not provided, the responsible person or entity will face a fine of up to $6,000 for the first offense and up to $12,000 for any subsequent offenses. The act is set to take effect 30 days after its enactment.
