This bill amends current law to exempt 100 percent disabled veterans from paying motor vehicle registration fees for one passenger vehicle owned by them. The eligibility criteria include individuals who have been honorably discharged from any branch of the Armed Forces and are adjudicated by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs as permanently 100 percent disabled. The bill also clarifies that the exemption applies to vehicles not used for hire and requires that these vehicles be equipped with necessary attachments for safe operation, as determined by the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the Adjutant General of the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, in collaboration with the Chief Administrator, must notify all eligible veterans about this fee exemption. This notification process aims to ensure that those who qualify are aware of their benefits. The act is set to take effect on the first day of the thirteenth month after its enactment, although preliminary administrative actions can be taken to facilitate its implementation.
