This bill mandates the Commissioner of Community Affairs to create and execute a plan aimed at eradicating veteran homelessness in New Jersey within three years. The plan must align with the criteria and benchmarks set by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness. To achieve this goal, the commissioner is tasked with coordinating efforts among state and local government entities and private organizations, managing a comprehensive list of veterans at risk of homelessness, facilitating data sharing among service providers, prioritizing veterans for benefits, connecting them to health and employment resources, adhering to Housing First principles, and identifying necessary funding sources.
Additionally, the bill requires the commissioner to update and implement a new plan every three years following the initial three-year period to ensure ongoing support for veterans at risk of homelessness. It also establishes reporting requirements for the commissioner to submit progress reports to the Governor and the Legislature. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon enactment.
