This bill mandates that health insurance coverage must include prenatal genetic testing during the first trimester of pregnancy. It applies to various health insurance carriers, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health service corporations, health maintenance organizations, and entities involved in administering health benefits for the State Health Benefits Program and School Employees Health Benefits Program. The bill specifies that the coverage must encompass various testing methods, such as carrier screening, nuchal translucency screening, and chorionic villus sampling, ensuring that these tests are treated with the same level of benefits as any other medical condition under the respective insurance contracts.

Additionally, the bill defines "carrier screening" as a blood sample or tissue sample taken from inside the cheek to identify whether an individual carries a gene for certain inherited disorders. The provisions of this bill will take effect 90 days after enactment and will apply to all relevant policies and contracts that are delivered, issued, executed, or renewed after that date.
