This bill allows high school students in grades 11 and 12 to receive excused absences for participating in college visits, visits to postsecondary technical institutions, and military recruitment-related activities. Specifically, students are permitted a total of three excused absences per school year for college and technical institution visits. Additionally, absences related to military recruitment activities will also be recorded as excused. Importantly, these excused absences will not be reflected on students' transcripts or other official documents, nor will they affect the assessment of a student's perfect attendance record for the school year.
To validate the excused absences, students must provide documentation as deemed necessary by the school district's superintendent or administrative principal. The bill defines military recruitment-related activities as those required by the Armed Forces or National Guard for enlistment eligibility, which includes testing, medical evaluations, interviews, and fingerprinting. The act is set to take effect in the first full school year following its enactment.
