This bill mandates that nurse practitioners and physicians who practice in emergency medicine, family medicine, general obstetrics, or gynecology must inquire about specific health-related issues from female patients exhibiting symptoms of influenza or viral gastroenteritis. Specifically, they are required to ask about the patient's menstrual cycle status, the date of the last menstrual cycle if applicable, and the last time a tampon was used. Additionally, they must inform patients about the signs and symptoms of menstrual toxic shock syndrome.

Furthermore, if a patient meets certain criteria—exhibiting symptoms of influenza or viral gastroenteritis, having an active or recently active menstrual cycle, and having experienced symptoms while using a tampon or shortly thereafter—the healthcare provider is obligated to offer testing for toxic shock syndrome. The bill also empowers the Commissioner of Health to establish necessary rules and regulations to implement these provisions effectively.
