This bill amends New Jersey law to expand eligibility for a special motor vehicle plate that currently recognizes holders of the "Combat Infantryman Badge" to also include those who have been awarded the "Combat Action Ribbon." The amendment specifies that individuals who hold either of these honors, as certified on their DD-214 form or a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, can apply for the distinctive plates. The plates will feature a design approved by the chief administrator and will include the words "Combat Infantryman Badge" along with the emblem of the Combat Infantryman Badge. The fee for these plates will be $15, in addition to standard registration fees.
Additionally, the bill allows the surviving spouse of a deceased holder of either the Combat Infantryman Badge or Combat Action Ribbon to retain the special license plates for use on a vehicle registered in their name. The chief administrator is tasked with establishing rules and regulations for the issuance and use of these plates. This change aims to ensure that Marines, who receive the Combat Action Ribbon instead of the Combat Infantryman Badge, can also benefit from this recognition.
