This bill prohibits the distribution or sale of cell-based food products in New Jersey, defining cell-based food as any cultured animal tissue produced from in vitro animal cell cultures outside of the organism from which it is derived for human consumption. Under the bill, individuals are not allowed to distribute, sell, or possess with the intent to distribute or sell such products.

Violators of this law will face a civil penalty of $1,000 for each infraction, with each day of continued violation considered a separate offense. The bill also allows the Department of Health or local health agencies to seek injunctive relief to enforce its provisions, utilizing the Penalty Enforcement Law of 1999 for the collection of penalties. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
