This bill amends the current transportation requirements for school districts in New Jersey, specifically revising the mileage limits for mandatory school transportation for students in preschool through grade four. Under the new provisions, school districts are required to provide transportation to these younger students if they live more than 1.5 miles from their public school of attendance. The bill maintains the existing transportation requirements for students in grades five through eight, who must live more than two miles away, and for high school students in grades nine through twelve, who must live more than 2.5 miles away from their public school.

Additionally, the bill updates the transportation eligibility criteria under the Interdistrict Public School Choice Program Act to reflect the new mileage requirements for preschool through grade four students. The changes aim to ensure that younger students have access to necessary transportation services, thereby enhancing their ability to attend school regularly. The bill will take effect in the first full school year following its enactment.
