This bill mandates that public water systems in New Jersey provide comprehensive notifications regarding boil water notices. Specifically, when a boil water notice is issued, the owner or operator of the public water system must inform the mayor or governing body, municipal clerk, affected customers, and the chief administrators of local schools within 24 hours. The bill also stipulates that these notifications must be posted on the public water system's website and social media accounts. Additionally, the bill requires that the notices include essential information such as the name of the public water system, the affected geographical area, the date of the incident, consumer corrective measures, and a contact number for inquiries.

Furthermore, within 60 days of the bill's enactment, public water systems must solicit customers' preferred means of direct contact through their water bills. If customers do not respond, the water system is permitted to use the telephone number on file to reach them. The bill emphasizes the need for public water systems to have the capability to notify customers via various direct contact methods, including telephone, email, or text message. This legislation aims to enhance communication and ensure public safety during water emergencies.
