This bill amends existing law to waive certain fees associated with commercial driver licenses for veterans and their spouses. Specifically, it stipulates that the Chief Administrator of the Motor Vehicle Commission shall not charge a transfer or licensing fee for a commercial driver license when it is transferred from another state where the veteran or their spouse was previously domiciled. Additionally, the bill defines a veteran as an individual who has received an honorable discharge from any branch of the active or reserve components of the Armed Forces of the United States or the National Guard of any state.
The bill also makes several amendments to the language regarding the issuance and validity of commercial driver licenses and learner's permits. It replaces references to the "Division of Motor Vehicles" with the "Motor Vehicle Commission" and changes the title of "director" to "chief administrator." Furthermore, it allows the chief administrator to limit the validity of permits and licenses to a specific length of time or number of testing opportunities, providing more flexibility in the administration of these licenses. The act is set to take effect on the first day of the third month following its enactment.
