This bill establishes a nurse aide workforce development program under the direction of the Commissioner of Health, aimed at educating the public about the benefits of becoming certified as a nurse aide in New Jersey. The program will provide comprehensive information on certification requirements, the application process, and the financial support available for individuals pursuing certification. Key provisions include that no nurse aide employed or offered employment by a long-term care facility can be charged for costs associated with the competency evaluation, and that facilities are required to reimburse certain costs for those who complete training and are subsequently employed within 12 months.
Additionally, the bill mandates the creation of educational materials that outline the steps to become a certified nurse aide, provide links to training programs, and detail the reimbursement process for training costs. A one-year pilot program will also be established to reimburse eligible nurse aide students up to 25% of their training costs upon completion of the course. All information developed will be made accessible on a dedicated Department of Health website. The act is set to take effect immediately and will expire 365 days after the pilot program begins.
