This bill amends current law to exempt honorably discharged veterans from municipal parking meter fees when their vehicle displays a placard issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). The exemption applies regardless of vehicle ownership, allowing veterans to benefit from this provision whether they are driving or riding as a passenger. However, the exemption does not apply if the vehicle is parked in one location for more than 24 hours.

In addition to honorably discharged veterans, the bill maintains the existing exemptions for disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients. The current law allows these individuals to be exempt from parking meter fees under similar conditions, specifically when their vehicle displays the appropriate license plates or placards. The bill also mandates that the Chief Administrator of the MVC establish rules for issuing placards to honorably discharged veterans, ensuring that the necessary regulations are in place to implement this new exemption effectively.
