This bill establishes protections for insurers and insurance producers involved in the insurance business related to cannabis-related businesses in New Jersey. It prohibits state or local government agencies from taking adverse actions against insurers or insurance producers for engaging in such business, including prohibiting, penalizing, or discouraging their participation, as well as terminating or limiting their policies solely based on their involvement with cannabis-related businesses. Additionally, the bill prevents agencies from recommending or incentivizing insurers not to engage with policyholders who are associated with cannabis-related businesses and protects against adverse supervisory actions against these businesses or individuals.
Furthermore, the bill ensures that insurers and insurance producers, along with their officers, directors, and employees, cannot be held liable under state law solely for engaging in the business of insurance with cannabis-related businesses or for investing income derived from that business. It clarifies that participation in the insurance business related to cannabis is not mandatory for insurers or insurance producers and does not interfere with existing regulations governing the insurance industry, except as specifically outlined in the bill.
