This bill mandates the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) to collect and publish specific statistical information regarding consumer debt lawsuits. The term "consumer debt lawsuit" is defined as a civil action in the Superior Court aimed at enforcing a consumer credit contract or collecting medical debt. The AOC is required to compile and report various statistics, including the number of new lawsuits filed, pending cases, representation by attorneys, judgments granted, and other relevant data. These statistics will be reported annually to both the Governor and the Legislature.

The bill aims to enhance transparency and understanding of consumer debt litigation, as current statistics do not differentiate these cases from other civil litigation types. By implementing recommendations from the National Center for Access to Justice, the bill seeks to provide essential insights for court personnel, lawmakers, and advocates to address issues related to consumer debt claims. The act will take effect four months after its enactment, allowing the AOC to prepare for its implementation.
