This bill amends existing law to exempt disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients from municipal parking meter fees when their vehicle displays the appropriate special license plates or placard issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC). The exemption now applies regardless of vehicle ownership, as long as the veteran or recipient is either the driver or a passenger in the vehicle. However, the exemption does not apply if the vehicle is parked in one location for more than 24 hours.

Additionally, the bill mandates that the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will establish necessary rules and regulations to implement these provisions, including the issuance of placards for disabled veterans and Purple Heart recipients. This legislation aims to provide greater accessibility and support for veterans and recipients while ensuring that parking regulations are upheld. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
