This bill amends existing legislation to expand the requirements for the Commission on Human Trafficking to post public awareness signage in a wider range of establishments. The current law mandates the development of a public awareness sign that includes the national, 24-hour toll-free hotline for reporting human trafficking. The proposed changes will require these signs to be displayed in various locations, including gas stations, staffing agencies, law enforcement offices, nail salons, and New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission offices, in addition to previously listed establishments such as strip clubs, bars, and airports.

Furthermore, the bill stipulates that the public awareness signs must be maintained and replaced within 10 days if they are removed or defaced, with penalties for non-compliance set at $300 for a first offense and $1,000 for subsequent offenses. The signs must be prominently displayed in a size of at least eight and one-half inches by eleven inches, printed in 16-point font, and available in both English and Spanish. This initiative aims to enhance public awareness and reporting of human trafficking incidents across New Jersey.
