This bill mandates the incorporation of cybersecurity instruction into the curriculum for New Jersey high school students in grades nine through twelve, aligning with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Computer Science and Design Thinking. The curriculum will cover essential topics such as safe internet usage, computer fundamentals, and career pathways in cybersecurity, developed under the guidance of the Commissioner of Education in collaboration with relevant state agencies. This initiative aims to provide students with a comprehensive education in cybersecurity, preparing them for future opportunities in the field.

In addition to enhancing educational offerings, the bill establishes two loan redemption programs to support individuals pursuing careers in cybersecurity and teachers of cybersecurity-related subjects. The Cybersecurity Loan Redemption Program offers financial assistance to graduates of approved cybersecurity degree programs who work in the field, while the Cybersecurity Teacher Loan Redemption Program provides similar benefits to teachers in approved subjects. Both programs require participants to meet specific eligibility criteria and maintain employment in their respective fields to receive loan redemption benefits, thereby encouraging workforce development in cybersecurity within New Jersey.
