This bill mandates that school districts in New Jersey, which include grades nine through twelve, must incorporate instruction on the risks of compulsive gambling into their health and physical education curriculum. The instruction will cover topics such as the dangers of gambling addiction, the risks associated with personal finances and assets, and the distinction between probability and predictability. Additionally, the Commissioner of Education is tasked with providing sample learning activities and resources to assist school districts in this effort.
Furthermore, the Commissioner will develop a training module for high school teachers to support the implementation of this gambling instruction. This module will address the development of compulsive gambling behaviors, key indicators of gambling problems, and treatment considerations. The bill specifies that these requirements will take effect in the first full school year following the next review and update of the core curriculum content standards by the State Board of Education.
