This bill mandates that all licensed birthing centers, federally qualified health centers, and healthcare practitioners providing prenatal or postpartum care in New Jersey implement policies for evaluating individuals for hypertensive disorders related to pregnancy, specifically postpartum preeclampsia and hypertension. The evaluation is required if the individual exhibits symptoms and has not been previously diagnosed with the condition during the current or recent pregnancy. The evaluation tools must adhere to best practices as established by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists or another recognized authority.

Additionally, the bill requires these healthcare providers to offer evidence-based information about hypertensive disorders, inform patients of the benefits of evaluation, and discuss evaluation results with patients, developing a treatment plan if necessary. The Commissioner of Health is authorized to adopt regulations to enforce these requirements, which will take effect 180 days after enactment.
