This bill authorizes the issuance of "100 Percent Disabled Veteran" license plates by the Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission for veterans who have been adjudicated as 100 percent disabled by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs. The license plates will display the words "100 Percent Disabled Veteran" along with a symbol or emblem chosen by the chief administrator in consultation with relevant veteran organizations. Importantly, there will be no cost for veterans to obtain these plates, which will also grant them all the benefits and privileges associated with handicapped parking, as outlined in existing law.
Additionally, the bill stipulates that the 100 Percent Disabled Veteran license plates are non-transferable and intended solely for the use of the individual to whom they are issued. Any misuse or abuse of the privileges associated with these plates can lead to the revocation of benefits and the forfeiture of the license plate. The chief administrator is tasked with notifying the public about the availability of these plates through various means, including notices with motor vehicle registration renewals and signage in commission facilities. The act is set to take effect six months after its enactment, allowing for necessary preparations for implementation.
