The duties of the Ombudsman include assisting individuals in finding effective treatment options, ensuring proper care within mental health facilities, providing educational programs and vocational guidance, and raising awareness about the impacts of substance use disorders. Additionally, the ombudsman is required to maintain confidentiality regarding communications received during their duties. An annual report summarizing the services provided and recommendations for improving state support for individuals with mental health and addiction issues will be submitted to the Commissioner of Human Services, the Governor, and the Legislature.
