This bill mandates that written notices of cancellation or nonrenewal for both homeowners and automobile insurance policies must be sent by certified mail with return receipt requested, as well as by regular mail. The insurer is required to obtain a date-stamped proof of mailing from the United States Postal Service that includes the name and address of the insured. Additionally, the insurer must retain a duplicate copy of the mailed notice that is certified as a true copy.

The bill amends existing laws to ensure that these requirements are clearly outlined, emphasizing the importance of proper notification to policyholders. If these notification procedures are not followed, the insurance policy will remain in effect. The changes aim to enhance consumer protection by ensuring that insured individuals receive adequate notice regarding their policy status. The act is set to take effect 60 days after its enactment.
