This bill mandates that public institutions of higher education in New Jersey award academic credit to students who achieve a score of three or higher on an advanced placement examination or a score of 50 or higher on a college-level examination program learning assessment. To qualify for this credit, students must be pursuing an associate or baccalaureate degree and must have completed the relevant advanced placement course and examination or college-level examination program learning assessment while in high school (grades 9 through 12).
Additionally, the bill requires institutions to publicly post their policies and procedures for awarding such academic credit on their websites and to submit these policies to the Secretary of Higher Education, including any changes at least 60 days prior to implementation. The Secretary may grant exemptions on an individual course basis if an institution can demonstrate that a different required score is necessary for student success in advanced courses. This legislation aims to streamline the process of recognizing advanced academic achievements and ensure transparency in credit awarding practices.
