This bill allows students who successfully complete a course at a county fire academy to earn high school graduation credits in health, safety, and physical education, provided they meet specific criteria. To qualify, students must be between the ages of 16 and 18, pass an examination to become a junior firefighter or an equivalent position, and commit to volunteering at their local fire department for two years.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that fulfilling these requirements does not equate to becoming a member of the Junior Firefighters Auxiliary as established by existing law. The act is set to take effect immediately and will apply to the first full school year following its enactment.
