This bill amends current law to eliminate the $15 fee for special license plates issued to firefighters and members of first aid or rescue squads in New Jersey. The Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission will now issue these special plates without any additional cost, aside from standard vehicle registration fees. The bill also updates the language to clarify that the special plates can be issued for vehicles owned or leased by the individual, their spouse or parent, or a business they own.

Additionally, the bill requires individuals who receive these special plates to renew them annually. As part of the renewal process, they must provide proof that they are still bona fide members of a fire department or first aid/rescue squad in the state. The bill aims to support and recognize the contributions of these emergency service members by reducing financial barriers associated with obtaining special license plates.
