This bill mandates that school districts in New Jersey incorporate instruction on artificial intelligence (AI) into the curriculum for students in grades K-12, aligning with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards in Computer Science and Design Thinking. The instruction must cover general AI concepts, foundational skills for AI users, and best practices for responsible and ethical AI use. Additionally, the Commissioner of Education is tasked with providing age-appropriate sample learning activities and resources to assist in implementing this requirement.

Furthermore, the bill requires public institutions of higher education to offer certificate and degree programs in artificial intelligence. The Secretary of Higher Education, in collaboration with various state departments and councils, is responsible for developing model curricula for both four-year institutions and county colleges. These curricula must meet accreditation standards and include a comprehensive sequence of courses, additional requirements for degree programs, and expected student outcomes. The bill also calls for the creation of marketing materials to promote AI career pathways to students.
