This bill amends current law to allow members of local planning boards and zoning boards of adjustment in New Jersey to fulfill their training requirements through online courses. Specifically, it mandates that the Commissioner of Community Affairs ensure the basic course in land use law and planning is available in both online and in-person formats within one year of the bill's enactment. The course will consist of no more than five hours of instruction and must be completed by new members within 18 months of joining the board to retain their membership.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that existing members must also complete the course within 18 months of its first offering to maintain their positions. Importantly, it stipulates that decisions made by boards will not be invalidated if a member is later found to have not completed the required training. This change aims to enhance accessibility to training for board members, allowing them to better fulfill their roles without significant disruption to their personal or professional lives.
