This bill mandates that all coaches of public and nonpublic school athletic activities obtain certification in automated external defibrillator (AED) operation and first aid, in addition to the existing requirement for certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The certifications must be from recognized organizations such as the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association. This change aims to enhance the preparedness of coaches in responding to medical emergencies during athletic activities.

Furthermore, the bill updates the requirements for emergency action plans related to sports-related injuries. It now requires the identification of healthcare professionals who will provide medical care during games and practices, as well as the inclusion of appropriate contact information for emergency medical services and directions to the venue. These enhancements are designed to ensure a more comprehensive and effective response to serious injuries in school sports settings.
