This bill authorizes the issuance of special motor vehicle registration plates for active and former members of the United States Coast Guard, as well as their spouses and parents. The plates will feature the United States Coast Guard Seal and will identify the holder as a member or former member of the Coast Guard. The fee for these special plates is set at $25, in addition to the standard registration fees. The Chief Administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission is responsible for overseeing the issuance of these plates and may retain a portion of the fees collected to cover the costs associated with implementing the program.
Additionally, the bill allows the Chief Administrator to adjust the fee for the plates if the average cost of production exceeds the established fee for two consecutive fiscal years. This adjustment would require certification and approval from the Joint Budget Oversight Committee. The act is set to take effect on the first day of the seventh month following its enactment, although the Chief Administrator may take necessary administrative actions in advance to ensure its implementation.
