This bill mandates that starting with the grade eleven class of the first full school year after its enactment, local graduation requirements set by boards of education in New Jersey must include the completion and submission of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Students may be exempt from this requirement if they provide a signed form from a parent or guardian, or if they are at least 18 years old, they can sign the form themselves to request the exemption.

Additionally, the bill requires the Commissioner of Education, in collaboration with the Executive Director of the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, to create and distribute a list of resources that will assist school districts, parents, and students with the FAFSA process, including detailed instructions on how to complete the application. This initiative aims to ensure that students are better prepared for post-secondary education funding opportunities.
