This bill amends current law to allow police officers to be present at senior residential centers or schools serving as polling places upon request from the respective center or school. The officers must be in plain clothes and are prohibited from interfering with voters. Additionally, if a center or school requests police presence, they must notify the district board at least seven days before the election, which will then inform the county board of elections or superintendent of elections, who will subsequently notify the Secretary of State. The bill maintains the existing provision that police officers cannot interfere with individuals voting.

Furthermore, the bill mandates that all schools serving as polling places develop security plans to ensure that voters do not have access to or interact with students during elections. These security plans must include a designated voting area that is locked and separate from the rest of the school if classes are in session. The Secretary of the Department of Education and the Secretary of State are tasked with notifying schools of this new requirement immediately after the bill's enactment. The security plan requirement will take effect for the first election following the bill's passage and for all subsequent elections.
