This bill amends New Jersey law to expand eligibility for a special motor vehicle plate that currently recognizes holders of the "Combat Infantryman Badge" to also include those who have been awarded the "Combat Action Ribbon." The amendment specifies that individuals must provide certification of their status as a holder of either award through their DD-214 form or a Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. The chief administrator of motor vehicles is tasked with issuing these distinctive plates, which will feature the words "Combat Infantryman Badge" and the corresponding emblem, along with a fee of $15 in addition to standard registration fees.
Additionally, the bill allows the surviving spouse of a deceased holder of either the Combat Infantryman Badge or Combat Action Ribbon to retain the special license plates for use on a vehicle registered in their name. The chief administrator is also given the authority to establish rules and regulations regarding the issuance and use of these plates. This change aims to ensure that Marines, who receive the Combat Action Ribbon instead of the Combat Infantryman Badge, can also be recognized with this special plate.
