This bill establishes a prohibition against law enforcement officers wearing masks or disguises while interacting with the public during the performance of their official duties. The definition of a law enforcement officer is provided, encompassing members of federal, state, county, or municipal law enforcement agencies who are authorized to enforce laws. Violations of this provision would result in the officer being charged with a disorderly persons offense, which carries penalties including fines ranging from $500 to $1,000, up to six months of imprisonment, or both.

However, the bill includes specific exceptions to this prohibition. Law enforcement officers may wear masks or disguises if they are engaged in undercover assignments, wearing a shield that does not conceal their face for protection, using a medical-grade mask or N95 respirator with a physician's statement for health reasons, or wearing a mask for protection against smoke during a State of Emergency. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
