This bill amends the composition of the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling by reducing the number of public members from three to two and eliminating the requirement for one of the public members to be a licensed teacher. Instead, the bill introduces a requirement for one member to represent public school vocational programs in cosmetology and hairstyling and another to represent licensed private schools in the same field.
Additionally, the bill modifies the qualifications for the six remaining members who must hold practicing licenses. Rather than being limited to cosmetologists, hairstylists, and barbers, these members can now be licensed in any profession for which the board issues a license. The bill maintains the requirement for a State executive department member and two members who own or operate hair braiding shops in New Jersey. The changes aim to diversify the board's representation and ensure it includes a broader range of professionals in the cosmetology and hairstyling fields.
