The Radical Regimes Education Act mandates that school districts in New Jersey include instruction on the atrocities committed by the governments of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (U.S.S.R.), the Peoples Republic of China (PRC), and Nazi Germany in their social studies curriculum for students in grades nine through twelve. This instruction must align with the New Jersey Student Learning Standards and be tailored to the age and comprehension levels of the students. The content will cover the historical context of these regimes, including their establishment and expansion, human rights abuses, genocides, and the use of oppressive measures such as gulags and concentration camps.
Additionally, the bill requires the Commissioner of Education to provide school districts with sample instructional materials and resources to aid in the implementation of these educational requirements. The act is set to take effect immediately and will first apply to the full school year following its enactment.
