This bill mandates the removal of double utility poles by establishing a clear timeline for the owners of pole attachments and the owners of the double utility poles. Specifically, once an electric public utility notifies the owners of pole attachments about the existence of a double utility pole, they are required to remove their attachments within 10 business days. Following this, the owners of the double utility pole must remove the pole itself within five business days of receiving notification that the attachments have been removed.

The bill defines a double utility pole as a damaged or outdated utility pole that remains in service with attachments after a replacement pole has been installed. Additionally, it empowers the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities to create necessary rules and regulations to implement these provisions, including those related to the transfer of pole attachments from double utility poles. The act is set to take effect on the first day of the sixth month following its enactment.
