This bill amends the composition of the New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling, reducing the number of public members from three to two. It introduces a requirement for one member to represent public school vocational programs in cosmetology and hairstyling approved by the State Board of Education, and another to represent licensed private schools of cosmetology and hairstyling. Additionally, the bill specifies that six of the remaining members must hold practicing licenses issued by the board and have at least five years of experience in their licensed profession, while also prohibiting them from having engaged in teaching at a licensed school of beauty culture or cosmetology and hairstyling.

Furthermore, the bill maintains the requirement for a State executive department member and adds a stipulation that two members must be owners or operators of hair braiding shops in New Jersey. The previous requirement for a licensed teacher engaged in teaching at a licensed school has been removed, allowing for a broader range of licensed professionals to be appointed to the board. This restructuring aims to better reflect the diverse practices within the cosmetology and hairstyling industry in New Jersey.
