This bill aims to expand the scope of practice for licensed acupuncturists in New Jersey, allowing them to perform a wider range of diagnostic and analytical procedures. Specifically, licensed acupuncturists will be authorized to take and order X-rays, order various laboratory tests, and perform certain diagnostic tests such as reagent strip tests and electrodiagnostic tests. Additionally, the bill introduces provisions for licensed acupuncturists certified in expanded practice, enabling them to engage in injection therapy, intravenous therapy, and bioidentical hormone therapy, as well as to prescribe and dispense various health-related products, including homeopathic medicines and nutritional substances.
Furthermore, the bill stipulates that acupuncturists previously licensed under state law will be deemed certified for injection and intravenous therapies if they hold appropriate certifications from recognized boards. It also mandates that licensed acupuncturists with expanded practice and prescriptive authority adhere to compounding requirements set forth in the United States Pharmacopeia and National Formulary when preparing medications for patients. This legislative change is intended to enhance the capabilities of acupuncturists, thereby improving patient care and treatment options.
