This bill mandates the Board of Public Utilities (BPU), in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Protection and the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, to conduct a comprehensive study on the feasibility of developing advanced nuclear reactors throughout New Jersey. The study is to be completed within 18 months and will include an assessment of suitable locations for deployment, regulatory requirements, economic viability, safety precautions, environmental impacts, and public perception. The BPU is also required to hold at least three public stakeholder sessions and publish its findings online.

Additionally, the bill emphasizes New Jersey's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring energy reliability, affordability, and security. It highlights the importance of advanced reactors as a carbon-free energy solution that aligns with the state's energy and environmental goals. The BPU is authorized to seek funding from federal and state grants, private investments, and public-private partnerships to support the study and potential development of advanced reactors. The act will take effect immediately and will expire 30 days after the BPU submits its report.
