This bill mandates the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) to enhance transparency and accessibility of information regarding electric power suppliers and gas suppliers for consumers. The BPU is required to review the websites of public utility regulatory bodies in other states with deregulated energy sectors to identify the most user-friendly models. Within 90 days of this assessment, and subsequently on a quarterly basis, the BPU must publish comprehensive information on its own website about the suppliers operating in New Jersey. This information must be presented in a clear, educational format that highlights the benefits of retail choice, allowing consumers to make informed decisions.

Additionally, the bill establishes a public awareness campaign aimed at educating electric and gas utility customers about the advantages of exercising their retail choice and how to navigate the information available on the BPU's website. The campaign is intended to address the low participation rates in retail choice among New Jersey residents, which, as of February 2025, stood at only 6.2% for residential electric customers and 2.5% for residential gas customers. By improving public awareness and access to information, the bill seeks to empower consumers to take advantage of their rights under the Electric Discount and Energy Competition Act of 1999.
