This bill mandates that retail establishments in New Jersey disclose the portion of a product's retail price that is attributable to tariffs and trade-related import taxes. Retailers must provide this information in various formats, including on price tags, online product pages, and printed receipts. Exemptions are provided for retail establishments with annual revenues below $500,000 and for products where the tariff-related price impact is less than two percent of the final retail price.
To ensure compliance, the bill requires periodic audits of retail establishments, with fines for violations capped at $500 per incident. The Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs is tasked with developing regulations for the calculation and display of tariff-related pricing, as well as maintaining a public list of exempt commodities and establishments. The act will take effect 90 days after enactment, allowing the director to take necessary administrative actions in advance.
