This bill mandates that health insurers in New Jersey, including hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health service corporations, health maintenance organizations, and those involved in the State Health Benefits Program and School Employees Health Benefits Program, provide coverage for testing for suspected dyslexia. The coverage must include comprehensive neuropsychological examinations aimed at diagnosing dyslexia and assessing the psychological, emotional, and educational needs of the individual being tested. Insurers are prohibited from excluding coverage for the screening, diagnosis, or treatment of dyslexia-related medical conditions that are otherwise covered by their policies.
The bill ensures that the benefits for dyslexia testing are provided to the same extent as for any other medical condition under the respective contracts, policies, or plans. It applies to contracts that are delivered, issued, executed, or renewed on or after the effective date of the act, which is set for the first day of the sixth month following its enactment.
