This bill aims to expand the Information and Referral Services helpline within the Division of Disability Services in the Department of Human Services, with a focus on enhancing accessibility for individuals planning visits to State or county public facilities. The expanded helpline will provide essential information regarding disability accommodations, including the availability of ramps, sign language interpreters, and other accessibility aids. Additionally, it will address inquiries related to service animals and assist individuals in navigating public spaces while understanding their rights and available resources. Designated offices at public facilities will oversee the coordination of accommodations arranged through the helpline, ensuring effective on-site support.
To implement these provisions, the bill appropriates $100,000 to the Division of Disability Services. The Division is also tasked with consulting State and county agencies to identify necessary information and assistance for the helpline, as well as developing strategies to publicize the service to ensure that individuals in need are aware of and can effectively utilize it. This initiative is designed to promote equal access to public facilities for all individuals, regardless of their abilities.
