This bill amends existing New Jersey law to eliminate the eligibility of certain students, including undocumented immigrants, for State student financial aid and in-State tuition at public institutions of higher education. Specifically, it repeals provisions that allowed these students to qualify for in-State tuition if they attended high school in New Jersey for three or more years, graduated from a New Jersey high school or received an equivalent diploma, and registered as an entering student or were currently enrolled in a public institution of higher education. The bill also repeals similar eligibility criteria for State student financial aid programs.
Additionally, the bill makes technical amendments to sections of law that referenced the repealed provisions, ensuring that the higher education benefits available to individuals holding T or U visas, or dependents of those with H-1B, O-1, or O-2 visas, remain unaffected. The changes take effect immediately upon enactment.
