This bill establishes a regulation that prohibits retail food stores from increasing the prices of staple food goods more than once per day. The definition of "staple food good" includes items intended for home preparation and consumption, such as cereals, bakery products, meats, poultry, fish, eggs, dairy, fruits, and vegetables.

In the event of a violation, the bill imposes civil penalties of $1,000 for a first offense, $2,500 for a second offense, and $5,000 for a third and subsequent offenses. Enforcement of these provisions will be carried out by the Office of Weights and Measures in collaboration with the Office of Consumer Protection within the Division of Consumer Affairs in the Department of Law and Public Safety. The bill is set to take effect immediately upon enactment.
