This bill establishes that police officers who contract COVID-19 between June 5, 2021, and January 31, 2022, may be eligible for full accidental disability benefits under specific conditions. To qualify, the officer must have contracted the virus while working at a location other than their own home, must be a member of the police force, and must be permanently and totally disabled as a direct result of the illness.

Additionally, the bill clarifies that it is intended to affirm the rights of public safety workers without diminishing any existing benefits or rights provided by law. The act is set to take effect immediately and will be retroactive to June 5, 2021.
