The Political Donation Transparency Act aims to enhance transparency in political contributions by prohibiting the automatic enrollment of individuals in recurring political contributions without their explicit consent. Under this bill, candidates and various political committees are required to ensure that contributions are not set to recur by default. Instead, individuals must provide affirmative consent for their contributions to be automatic or recurring. Additionally, the bill mandates that a clear and conspicuous description of the contribution's nature, frequency, and amount be provided alongside the option to make a recurring contribution.

To enforce these provisions, the bill grants the Election Law Enforcement Commission the authority to create necessary rules under the "Administrative Procedure Act." Violations of the act or its associated rules will be classified as a crime of the fourth degree, which carries penalties of up to 18 months of imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
