The Political Donation Transparency Act aims to enhance transparency in political contributions by prohibiting the automatic enrollment of individuals in recurring political donations. Under this bill, candidates and political committees are required to meet specific standards when soliciting contributions. These standards include ensuring that contributions are not automatically set to recur by default, obtaining affirmative consent from contributors before making contributions recurring, and providing a clear description of the nature, frequency, and amount of the recurring contributions alongside the solicitation.

Additionally, the bill grants the Election Law Enforcement Commission the authority to create necessary rules for implementing these provisions. Violations of the act or its associated rules are classified as a fourth-degree crime, which carries penalties of up to 18 months of imprisonment, a fine of up to $10,000, or both. The act is set to take effect immediately upon passage.
