This bill mandates the Division of Gaming Enforcement within the Department of Law and Public Safety to conduct a study assessing the effectiveness of various words and phrases in gambling advertisements aimed at deterring illegal or irresponsible gambling and promoting responsible gambling tools. The study will evaluate factors such as public resonance with specific phrases, their impact on responsible betting behavior, optimal placement and font size in advertisements, and the effectiveness of different messages for problem gamblers and underage individuals. The findings must be published online within 12 months, and based on the results, the division will develop between three and ten key phrases to be included in gambling advertisements, alongside existing required language like "If you or someone you know has a gambling problem and wants help, call 1-800 GAMBLER."
Additionally, the bill introduces new regulations to ensure that gambling-related advertisements are not deceptive and mandates that they include the approved phrases. It also emphasizes the need to restrict such advertisements from being placed in or near locations frequented by minors, such as schools and college campuses, or on media targeting underage individuals. The bill aims to enhance the effectiveness of gambling advertisements while promoting responsible gambling practices and protecting vulnerable populations.
